The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Division is housed in the Information Systems Department. The goal of the GIS Division is to provide City departments and local agencies with accurate geographic-based information and analysis tools to increase staff efficiency and reduce redundant mapping and analysis activities. The GIS Division was primarily serving the City as a mapping unit, responding to various project-specific mapping requests. The responsibilities of this Division have evolved since its original inception. The GIS Division is currently responsible for planning, coordinating, designing, creating, maintaining, and managing the development of the GIS data layers, databases, and applications. The division also provides GIS training to users, technical and operational support, and database administration necessary to guide the development and integrity of the citywide GIS.
