Jones Park

The first of a three-phased restoration project is a $1 million scope of work that includes the construction of a splash pad, sidewalks, lighting pavilion, playgrounds and green space in the northeastern corner of Jones Park, the largest public park on the Gulf Coast.

The Phase I work is being done at the same time Coast Transit Authority constructs a new bus terminal and comfort station in the park. Roy Anderson Corp is the contractor on both projects.

Phase I will be complete by mid-summer.

Phase II: Jones Park Drive and 20th Avenue, north of roundabout. Notice to contractor to proceed with work was issued April 12. We expect Phase II to be complete January 2011. The 20th Avenue portion of the work is expected to continue through July 2010, which is expected to limit use of the splash pad until it is complete. This part of the project realigns and widens 20th Avenue leading into the park. This will create additional vehicle parking along the eastern edge of the harbor.

Phase III: 20th Avenue extension, south of roundabout.
Scheduling of Phase III is being done to minimize conflicts with construction of the bulkhead and piers in the harbor. We expect this scheduling to have an effect on completion date of this portion of the project. The Phase III work is necessary to provide ample parking and access to the new yacht basin. This phase includes the realignment of 20th Avenue and will provide an area of additional green space adjacent to the south beach location between Urie and Moses piers.
