Thanks for your interest in the Summer Day Program

The Dept of Leisure Services seeks energetic individuals interested in positively influencing children during their summer experience with Leisure Services.  This is program is treated as a child care program by the state of Mississippi and should be taken seriously by the employee.

2012 Summer Applications now being accepted .

The Department of Leisure Services hires approximately 50-70 qualified staff members each summer to operate one of the largest municipally operated day camp programs in the state.  All staff are screened and selected by our department and meet all of the requirements associated with the MS State Health Department Office of Child Care Licensure.

 

Staff are required to obtain:

  • Current Certification in Adult & Child CPR (Classes provided by DLS)

  • Current Certification in Standard First Aid (Classes provided by DLS)

  • Central Registry Child Abuse & Neglect Check

  • FBI Criminal Background Check & Fingerprinting

  • High School or GED  equivalent and/or College transcripts/Diploma

  • Certificate of Immunization (Form 121) from the Health Department

  • 15 Hours of In-Service Training & Orientation by the Department of Leisure Services in conjunction with the Mississippi State Department of Health.

CPR & First Aid Classes are provided by the

 Dept. of Leisure Services for hired employees needing certification.

Leisure Services also welcomes any internship opportunities from local or regional Colleges & Universities.  Leisure Services has worked with Recreation Departments with University of Mississippi, The University of Southern Mississippi, University of South Alabama & Mississippi State University.
