Gulfport Harbor close to completion
GULFPORT — Construction of the new Gulfport Harbor moved another step closer to completion this week with the groundbreaking on the new Harbor Services facility.
The new $1.7 million facility will take about a year to build and it will be the new home of the harbormaster’s office and other harbor and park services.
“The harbor and Jones Park property is Mississippi’s front yard and it is imperative that we get it right,” Mayor George Schloegel said. “With what we have planned for this property, we know we are on the right track.”
The city expects to have boats in the new harbor early this summer. The entire harbor and Jones Park revitalization should be complete in about a year.
