Saints players join Mayor Schloegel on Thursday

GULFPORT — Mayor George Schloegel will join the mayors of Biloxi and Ocean Springs on Thursday night to present a special token of appreciation to New Orleans Saints wide receiver Devery Henderson and tight end David Thomas, during the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center’s WINGS performance.

The show begins at 7 p.m. at the Beau Rivage Theatre. General admission tickets are $20 and tickets for students and senior citizens are $10. Tickets can be purchased online at www.lmdc.org, or by calling 897-6039.

This school year, more than 100 children in grades 3-12 are participating in the Discovery Center's WINGS Performing Arts program across the tri-county area.

On Thursday night, with the addition of other local groups, such as the Gulfport High School Concert Choir and the Gulf Coast Symphony’s Youth Orchestra, more than 300 performers will take the stage at the Beau Rivage for the WINGS performance, “Dreams; a celebration of diversity.”

The Lynn Meadows Discovery Center’s annual fundraiser is in its 8th year.

This year’s performance is sponsored by AT&T, The Real Yellow Pages, the Emeril Lagasse Foundation, the Mississippi Arts Commission, the National Endowment for the Arts, Mississippi Power, WLOX, Lamar, Winn-Dixie, Pepsi and the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino.

Gulfport PD partnering with Surge

The Gulfport Police Department announced today a new partnership with the Mississippi Surge hockey team to promote the importance of buckling up behind the wheel.

Today and tomorrow, the GPD will be on the lookout for motorists who are buckled up.

Those who are not buckled up will receive a traffic ticket. Those who take the time to buckle up will also receive tickets.

However, those tickets will be to see the Surge play in the President’s Cup Finals at the Coast Coliseum on April 14 and 15.

“This is a great way to promote the importance of buckling up,” said Police Chief Alan Weatherford. “Safety behind the wheel can never be stressed enough.”

Centennial Plaza has new home on Internet

The City of Gulfport and the Gulfport Redevelopment Commission have launched a new webpage to promote the possibilities of Centennial Plaza to the world.

Later this month, the GRC will hold a developers’ summit to market our city and Centennial Plaza to investors from around the country.

The goal is to find a developer willing to turn the old VA into Centennial Plaza, a thriving center of hotels, conventions, retail and commercial establishments, festivals and galas.

Visit www.gulfportcentennialplaza.com to learn more about this historic property and the exciting possibilities it provides.
