Renovated medians and free trees

GULFPORT — Restaurant owner Rob Stinson looked out the window of his beachfront Italian bistro, Salute’s, on Monday with a smile at the newly landscaped median on Highway 90.

“The city’s beatification folks came in and really got after it man,” Stinson said. “This road has never looked better.”

Mark Davis, part owner of the building that houses Salute’s and partner in the Davis & Crump law firm, donated the materials for the median renovation.

The city plans to eventually give a landscaping makeover to the entire intersection of U.S. 90 and 15th St., but for now, Gus Wesson, Gulfport’s landscape architect, said he hopes to have everything north of the highway complete sometime this year.

For the reconstruction of the median in front of Salute’s, the city used Red Knockout Roses, Sago Palms, Lomandra breeze grass and seasonal color plantings.

The overhaul fits with other medians and sidewalks along U.S. 90 and downtown that the city has renovated in recent years.
