Navy Week parade and proclamation

GULFPORT — Mayor George Schloegel will sign a proclamation on Monday officially naming the last week in March as Navy Week.

Captain Lou Cariello, commanding officer of the Gulfport Seabee Base, will join Mayor Schloegel and others during a singing ceremony outside City Hall on Monday at 9 a.m.

The proclamation comes as National Navy Week begins across the country.

The city will continue the celebration on Friday, March 25, with a Patriots Parade and street party in Mississippi City.

The parade starts at 6 p.m. on 16th Street behind the White Cap Restaurant.

There will be a pre-party at 4:30 p.m. at the corner of Dolan Avenue and 16th Street featuring Starz.

The Patriots Parade rolls from Dolan to 16th Street on to Courthouse Road. The parade will head north along Courthouse to the Hardy Court Shopping Center where there will be live music on the City Stage from No Plain Jane.

There will be dozens of floats and the Navy Band New Orleans will march in the Patriots Parade. Navy Secretary Ray Mabus will serve as the parade Grand Marshal. Restaurants and merchants in Mississippi City will have booths along the parade route.
