The Gulfport Police Department will be hosting a Citywide Community Meeting on July 23, 2013. The meeting will be held at the Gulfport Police Department located at 2220 15th Street and begin at 6:00 pm. This meeting will be for all current Block Captains and any interested city resident that would be interested in participating in the role. Even if a resident has not participated in the past Community Watch meetings and has a strong desire to take an active role in their community, they are encouraged to attend.
The Gulfport Police Department encourages all residents to take an active part in making their communities safer by working hand in hand with its officers. Apartment complex residents are also invited to attend this meeting. Currently, the Gulfport Police Department has Community Watch Block Captains in sixty-one communities within the City of Gulfport. Chief Leonard Papania said, “The Gulfport Police Department has a strong desire for community involvement and cooperation with citizens. By residents taking an active role in making their communities safer, it enhances any efforts the Gulfport Police Department does. I encourage any and all residents to attend this meeting to learn how to make Gulfport a safer and better place to live.”
This gathering will be the first of many regular events for citizens to meet with the staff of the Gulfport Police Department and share ideas on how to combat crime and quality of life issues. It will also serve as a starting point for any un-represented communities to start a community watch in Gulfport. Light refreshments will be served. If you have any questions please feel free to call the Community Relations Division at (228)868-5703 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
